The short version: I use analytics to see which pages are read, an email tool if you subscribe, and affiliate links that tell a provider you came from here. I do not sell your data, and I never see your financial information.

What is collected, and why

Contact form submissions are used to answer you and are not added to any mailing list.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses them for three things: remembering your language, measuring traffic through Google Analytics, and attributing affiliate referrals. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them will not stop you reading anything here, though the language choice will stop persisting.
If you leave a comment, WordPress may store your name, email and website in cookies so you do not have to retype them. Those last up to a year.
What is never done
- Your data is never sold.
- Your email is never passed to a provider, an advertiser or anyone else.
- No financial data is ever seen. When you open an account with a provider, that happens entirely on their side. I receive a commission notification, not your details.
- No advertising networks run on this site. There are no display ads and no retargeting pixels.
How long data is kept
Newsletter subscribers are kept until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed. Comments are kept indefinitely. Analytics data follows Google’s retention settings. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security purposes.
Your rights
Under Swiss data protection law and, where it applies to you, the GDPR, you can ask for a copy of the personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, and withdraw consent to marketing emails at any time. Unsubscribing takes one click from any email.
To exercise any of these, use the contact form. There is no charge and no need to give a reason.
Data outside Switzerland
Some of the services above are operated by companies based outside Switzerland, including in the United States. Where that is the case, your data may be processed there under those providers’ own safeguards and privacy terms.
Changes
This policy is updated when the tools the site uses change. The date below shows when it was last reviewed.
