Yuh’s pillar 3a sits in the same app as your Yuh account: five ready-made strategies, Swisscanto index funds, a flat 0.50% fee and payments from any amount. This review covers the 3a only: what it really costs, what the fee leaves out, and the one-account limit that matters more than the fee. For the account and the card, read my Yuh review, and for trading, my Yuh Invest review.

My verdict★ 4.0

A decent, simple 3a if your salary already lands in Yuh: five index strategies from 20% to 99% equities, cheap Swisscanto funds and a fee that is close to all-in. But it runs on the same foundation, bank and funds as neon 3a, which is cheaper at every balance. And Yuh allows only one 3a account per person, so you cannot split your pension savings to spread the tax when you withdraw. Fine for a first 3a, not where I would build a large one.

Yuh 3a pros and cons

ProsCons
  • One flat 0.50% fee covering custody, administration, currency exchange and strategy changes
  • Swisscanto institutional index funds with a 0.00% fund fee
  • No minimum: pay in any amount, invested from CHF 10
  • Five strategies from 20% to 99% equities, switchable at any time for free
  • Free transfers in and out, and the 3a sits next to your salary account
  • Only one 3a account per person, so no staggered withdrawals
  • The same funds and foundation as neon 3a, which charges 0.39% to 0.45%
  • A 0.71% fund cost on the real-estate fund in four strategies sits outside the 0.50%
  • Early withdrawals cost money: CHF 400 for a home purchase, CHF 250 on becoming self-employed
  • No way to build your own mix, and no separate sustainable or Swiss-focused versions

What Yuh 3a actually costs

Yuh charges one fee of 0.50% a year on your invested pension money, worked out daily and taken at the end of each quarter, 0.125% at a time. Yuh says it covers custody, the funds’ own fees, currency exchange, administration, unlimited strategy changes, deposits, withdrawals, and opening and closing the account. Every figure below comes from Yuh’s own 3a pages and pricing page, the fee regulations of the pension foundation that Yuh links to, and the funds’ own factsheets, read on 24 September 2026.

ItemCost
Yuh 3a fee0.50% a year, charged quarterly
Fund fee of the Swisscanto funds0.00%
Real-estate fund (four of the five strategies)0.71% a year on that part of your portfolio, inside the fund’s price
Buying and selling fund units0.01% to 0.39% when buying, 0.00% to 0.23% when selling, kept by the fund
Transfer in, or out to another 3a or pension fundCHF 0
Payout at retirement, living in SwitzerlandCHF 0
Withdrawal for a home purchaseCHF 400, or CHF 600 if you live abroad
Pledging your 3a for a mortgageCHF 250
Withdrawal on becoming self-employedCHF 250
Payout to someone living abroadCHF 400

“All-in” decoded. The Swisscanto funds Yuh uses charge no fund fee of their own, so for most of your money the 0.50% really is the whole cost. The exception is the Swiss real-estate fund in the Mild, Tasty, Spicy and Hot strategies. It invests in other real-estate funds and carries a 0.71% cost inside its price. Yuh does not publish how much of each strategy sits in it, so the exact total cannot be worked out, but each 5% of your portfolio in that fund adds about 0.04% a year. Yuh’s pricing page also lists withdrawals as included, while the foundation’s own fee rules charge for early withdrawals. Both are small print, and both are worth knowing before you compare.

What that means in francs

On a CHF 10’000 balance the fee is CHF 50 a year. In your first year, paying in the 2026 maximum of CHF 7’258 for employees with a pension fund, it is around CHF 36. At CHF 50’000 it is CHF 250. neon 3a, which uses the same foundation and the same Swisscanto funds, charges CHF 43 at CHF 10’000 and CHF 195 at CHF 50’000, because its fee falls as the balance grows and Yuh’s does not.

The five strategies

You choose one of five ready-made strategies and can switch between them at any time, free of charge. The switch is carried out the following Thursday. You cannot build your own mix.

Source: Yuh’s 3a page and its strategy explainer, read 24 September 2026. Yuh gives Fiery’s equity share as 99% in some places and 98% in others on the same page.

The building blocks are nine Swisscanto funds from Zürcher Kantonalbank: Swiss and world equities, emerging markets, Swiss and world bonds, a money-market fund, gold and Swiss real estate. All except the money-market fund are index funds, and all are institutional share classes with no fund fee. Foreign equities and bonds are mostly hedged to francs, which is why almost everything is in francs; only the emerging-markets fund is not hedged. Every strategy follows the same sustainability rules, so there is no separate “sustainable” option to choose.

One account per person, and why it matters

Yuh allows only one 3a account per person. Yuh says it is working on more, but today you cannot open a second one. That matters when you retire. A 3a account can only be withdrawn in full, so people usually hold several and withdraw them in different years, which keeps each withdrawal in a lower tax bracket. With a single Yuh account that is not possible inside Yuh. You can still open other 3a accounts elsewhere, but everything you build up at Yuh comes out in one go.

For a small balance that is no problem. For someone paying in the maximum for twenty years or more, it is a real cost at the end. neon 3a, on the same foundation, lets you run up to five portfolios side by side. My pillar 3a comparison explains how many accounts make sense and how withdrawals are taxed.

Is my 3a money safe at Yuh?

Your 3a is not held by Yuh. It sits with the Vorsorgestiftung simply3a, a pension foundation based in Schwyz, which is run by the private bank Lienhardt & Partner Privatbank Zürich. The same bank holds the fund units as custodian, and the technology behind it comes from Descartes. Your fund units are held for you as segregated assets, separate from the bank’s own money. Only the cash waiting for the next Thursday’s purchase is a bank balance.

One correction to Yuh’s own wording: its 3a page says your cash is “fully protected” if a bank fails. The fund units are protected by being kept separate. Cash is not a segregated asset, so treat that sentence as a simplification rather than a guarantee.

Paying in, moving and withdrawing

You can pay in any amount by standing order or as a one-off, and Yuh invests from CHF 10 every Thursday. Moving an existing 3a to Yuh is free, with a pre-filled request in the app, and moving it out to another 3a or a pension fund is free too. The payout is due 31 days after a complete request.

Money comes out only in the cases the law allows: five years before retirement age at the earliest, buying or paying down your own home, becoming self-employed, leaving Switzerland for good, buying into your pension fund, or disability. It is always paid as a lump sum. Home-ownership withdrawals are allowed once every five years and cost CHF 400 each time.

Yuh 3a is only for people living in Switzerland, aged 18 or over, who are not US citizens. Yuh also supports the new catch-up payments for missed years since 2025; the money has to arrive by 15 December.

Who should not use Yuh 3a

Anyone planning to build a large 3a over many years, because of the one-account limit. Anyone whose first question is cost: the same funds are cheaper at neon, and cheaper still elsewhere. Anyone who wants to pick their own funds or a Swiss-heavy or sustainability-labelled variant. And anyone expecting to withdraw early for a home, where the CHF 400 fee is worth knowing about in advance.

Yuh 3a vs the alternatives

Yuh 3a vs neon 3a

This is the cleanest comparison on the market: same foundation, same custodian bank, same Swisscanto funds. neon charges 0.39% to 0.45% depending on your balance, Yuh a flat 0.50%, and neon lets you run up to five portfolios where Yuh allows one account. neon 3a is better on both points. The only reason to choose Yuh is that your everyday money is already there. My neon 3a review has the details.

Yuh 3a vs the cheapest 3a providers

finpension charges a flat 0.39% with fund costs included, and True Wealth charges no management fee at all, leaving about 0.14% in fund costs. The price of Yuh’s convenience is a few tenths of a percent a year, which on a large balance over decades adds up. My pillar 3a comparison ranks every provider on its all-in cost.

My rules for Yuh 3a

  1. Use it for your first 3a, not your only one. With one account per person, a large balance at Yuh comes out in a single withdrawal. Open further accounts elsewhere as the balance grows.
  2. Pick the strategy for the years you have left. Decades to go: Hot or Fiery. Retirement within ten years: something milder. You can switch for free.
  3. Pay in regularly. A standing order from your Yuh account is the whole point of having the 3a in the same app.
  4. Check the cost against neon before you start. Same foundation, same funds, lower fee. Only stay with Yuh if the single app really matters to you.
  5. Plan home-purchase withdrawals. Each one costs CHF 400 and they are allowed once every five years.
  6. Pay in before the deadline. Money has to arrive in time to count for the tax year, and catch-up payments by 15 December.
Try before you commit

The Yuh account is free and opens in about ten minutes on your phone. Opening the 3a inside it costs nothing, there is no minimum, and you can look at all five strategies before you pay in a franc.

Yuh 3a FAQ

What does the Yuh 3a cost?

0.50% a year on your invested pension money, charged quarterly. The Swisscanto funds charge no fund fee of their own, but the Swiss real-estate fund in four of the five strategies carries a 0.71% cost inside its price, so the real total is slightly above 0.50%.

Is the Yuh 3a fee really all-in?

Almost. It covers custody, administration, currency exchange and strategy changes. It does not cover the real-estate fund’s own cost, small charges when fund units are bought or sold, or the foundation’s fees for early withdrawals, such as CHF 400 for a home purchase.

Which bank is behind the Yuh 3a?

The Vorsorgestiftung simply3a, a pension foundation in Schwyz run by Lienhardt & Partner Privatbank Zürich, which also holds the fund units. The funds are from Swisscanto, part of Zürcher Kantonalbank. neon 3a uses the same foundation, bank and funds.

Can I have more than one Yuh 3a account?

No. Yuh currently allows one 3a account per person and says it is working on more. That means you cannot spread withdrawals from Yuh over several years to lower the tax.

Which Yuh 3a strategy should I choose?

That depends on how long until you retire and how much ups and downs you can stomach, and this site does not give personal advice. The five strategies range from 20% equities (Mild) to 99% (Fiery), and you can switch between them for free at any time.

How much can I pay into the Yuh 3a in 2026?

CHF 7’258 if you are employed and in a pension fund, or 20% of your earned income up to CHF 36’288 if you are not. There is no minimum, and Yuh invests from CHF 10.

Can I transfer my existing 3a to Yuh?

Yes, free of charge, with a pre-filled request in the app. Moving your Yuh 3a to another provider or a pension fund later is also free.

Yuh 3a or neon 3a?

neon 3a, unless your everyday money is at Yuh and you want everything in one app. Both use the same foundation and funds, but neon charges 0.39% to 0.45% and lets you run up to five portfolios.

Is the Yuh 3a sustainable?

All five strategies follow the same sustainability rules: exclusions plus a tilt towards better-rated companies, with most funds in Swisscanto’s “Responsible” range. There is no separate sustainable or standard version to choose.

Can I use the Yuh 3a if I live abroad?

No. It is only for people living in Switzerland, aged 18 or over, who are not US citizens. If you move abroad later, a payout to someone living abroad costs CHF 400.
